|
|
Starting with version 0.3.0 IMAPSize manages account backups in a different way than in 0.2.x. Basically, backups are now backed up by an internal database (backup.db in your root backup folder) which enables faster backups for large mailboxes and also allows backup restores.
The drawback of this improvement is that the old backups are now obsolete, they can not be used by IMAPSize 0.3.0 for further incremental backups and they can not be used for backup restore. This also means that your first backup with version 0.3.x will start from scratch, which will take some time and consume bandwidth. I apologise for this, but it is the best solution in the long run.
So, if you already have a backup made with previous versions, the first time you attempt to perform a backup with 0.3.x the existing backup folder will be suffixed with "-old". This folder will no longer be used by IMAPSize so you can either delete it or keep it if you wish. Any backups performed from this point on will be saved to the folder defined in View/Options/Misc/RootBackupFolder. For more info, check the account backup page for details on how to manage account backups.
If you have any questions or encounter problems please post them here so others can follow up too. |

Is there any way to migrate the 0.2.x backups to the 0.3.x format? I've been using the backup function to maintain an archive, including things that have been deleted from the IMAP server. _________________ --

| I think I'll be able to put up a migration utility so that your old messages would be merged into the current backup. This operation would take time, but you will be able to use old messages in a backup restore for example. I'll have more information in a day or two. |

Sounds good. Don't expend too much energy on my behalf--my archive is sort of a secondary backup--but others in the same situation might find the capability more critical.
Thanks for everything. _________________ --

Just a note that this didn't make it into 0.3.1, but is still high on my list.
Those who have old backups, keep them aside. You can freely use the new backup functionality in the meantime. Once available, the migration tool will go through your old backups and add to your new backups those messages that have been deleted from your servers.
Please let me know if you have any comments on this. |
