I've followed the instructions, downloaded IMAPSize and tried converting the Thunderbird email files. Each time I do it nothing happens. It says the files have been converted but when I look in the specified folder there is nothing there.

I would have never switched to Thunderbird if I knew it'd be this much of a hassle to go back to Outlook. This makes me hate Mozilla now. Smile

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks a lot!
Marc

Marc, make sure you are converting the right file. If you check other similar topics you'll see it's usually a wrong file that's causing the problem.

Ivan,

Thanks for the response. The files I'm selecting are the ones listed on the instruction sheet: inbox.msf and inbox without a file extension.

Or are these not the correct files after all?

Thanks again,
Marc

It is inbox without an extension. If you try to open it in a text editor, you should see a regular text file, starting with a line that starts with "From ". Is that the case?

I've located the folder ("Mail") that contains Thunderbird's email files. In the folder are subfolders for my various email accounts. Let's say that "marc@aol.com" is my email. In this folder are five subfolders (Drafts.sbd, Inbox.sbd, Sent.sbd, Templates.sbd, and Trash.sbd.) Each one of these five folders are empty.

Below the folders are 13 files. Drafts, Dfrats.msf, Inbox, Inbox.msf, etc. "Inbox" is 56 mb while "Inbox.msf" is 2kb. I use mbox2eml to select "Inbox" and convert it to the desk top. It takes about 20 seconds to complete. Once it's done I go to the desk top and nothing is there.

Am I doing this right?

Thanks

Yes, you're doing it right.

Can you read through this post and let me know if it can be applied to your case? Specifically, what happens when you open your inbox file in a text editor?

I've run through a few of those things with all the up to date versions of the program.

Is there another way to do this without IMAPSize?

Is Mozilla working on anything that will make this easier or are they happy to trap its users?

You still didn't answer if you've managed to open the file in an editor Smile

Anyway, you can try to open the file with http://people.freenet.de/ukrebs/mbox2eml.html
Please let me know if it works or not, I'm quite sure something is wrong with the file.

I'm sorry. No, I haven't tried to open it with an editor because I don't really know what an editor is. Wink

I'll try the other link you suggested.

Thanks again!

Just a tip - saving a heap of files to your Desktop at once is probably a bad idea, and could be the main reason why you cant find the files - Sometimes windows doesn't like files on the Desktop

Try creating a new folder on your computer and using that to save all the files to - use Windows Explorer (the file manager, not the web browser) to have a look in that folder, and you may find all of the .eml files you've been looking for!

Good luck

- David
